Patio cushions can add comfort and a lot of style to any outdoor area. With a quick up grade you can transform your patio from blah to wow!
A boring pillow just won’t do. You need pillows that capture the feeling of your home. It needs to tell your guests where they are and almost become a part of your identity. Now before you say I’m exaggerating, let me say this. Your outdoor furniture is only as good as its cushions allow it to be!
So don’t let your beautiful teak wood patio bench lose its appeal because you couldn’t find the right pillow to compliment it. And don’t be so lazy that you can’t find the time to replace old faded pillows. Maybe your dog tore into one or the birds used it as their personal toilet. Get it replaced and spruce up your outdoors!
There are lots of things to consider when choosing your patio cushions. Firstly, they have to fit well on the chair or bench frame. A cushion that doesn’t fit properly and keeps sliding around is no good if you ask me. Make sure you do the measurements correctly and avoid seeing spaces you didn’t want to exist.
Secondly the colour is crucial. Make sure your cushions compliment the colour of the frame of the chairs as well as the walls and surroundings. Matching is not overly important but colour schemes should always be adhered to unless you’re part of the new age arty revolution. White or light colours are not always a good idea, especially if you have kids or plan to eat or drink near these couches.
Next you should focus on the comfort of the cushions. Is there enough padding for you to still be comfortable sitting there after a long meal? Too soft can be just as bad as too firm. One other thing to check for is to make sure there isn’t too much padding so that the cushions become too tall. If that happens you could end up with your legs squished against the underside of a dining table.
Last on the list is the type of fabric that is used in construction. Does it have all of the right qualities for the outdoors? Is it UV, water, rot and mildew resistant? There are special fabrics made just for this type of usage and they work very well. The texture of the fabric can also play a big role in weather resistance and comfort so be sure you try before you buy whenever possible. With so many choices it should be clear that new patio cushions can provide a great combination of quality and style.
