Requirement: Bathroom in your basement

When it comes to the rooms in your home, the bathroom takes the most abuse. It is used more than any other room and usually needs to be upgraded more than the rest of the house. Of course when your family is still growing you also find that there are times when you have to revamp your bath so that you have more space.

No matter what the reason is for giving your bathroom a facelift you will find that there are many benefits. For example if your bath has tile in it, over time this tile will begin to show major wear with chips and nicks as well as yellowing and shrinking grout, or maybe you have an old porcelain tub that is cracked. If you have this kind of thing going on then your bath begins to look dirty, even when it is not and in addition to that you can actually cause more damage by leaving it unattended, as water can get behind the tile and tub and cause mold spores to grow.

Water damage is very expensive to fix if it does happen, and mold can be very dangerous to the point of making you ill. Therefore, if your bathroom is showing any signs of disrepair that may lead to water damage or mold, it’s doubly imperative that you get it fixed.

Replacing broken and cracked tiles and putting in some fresh grout can make a world of difference. Replace or repair porcelain that is cracked and get rid of any rusty fixtures that may be leaking. When you get into the job, if you find that there is already water damage showing or that mold is in fact growing, it is better to go ahead and get the items repaired instead of waiting until the damage is far more serious and costly to boot.

Other than that, when you replace or repair the tub, put in new fixtures and replace and missing, broken or chipped tiles it will bring about an amazing difference in how your bathroom looks. Changing these things and adding some more modern touches, colors and decorations don?t cost a lot and your bathroom will look brand new. Something as simple as having your tube refinished and then freshly painted can make a major difference; or using a tub liner over a bathtub that is in good shape, but just looks a little worn can do wonders to change the look of your bathroom. Either of these are great options when a tub is still in good shape and just needs a new look.

Putting up wallpaper or new paint will brighten dingy walls. New fixtures such as sink or vanity, a new toilet and new flooring will help to give your bathroom a fresh feeling. Re-grouting and replacing old tiles take it a step further for a completely new look. All of this can be done without too much cost.

Finally, updating your bathroom isn’t just for your own benefit, although this is a very good reason. If your bathroom is seriously out of date, looks much worn, or is in disrepair, you risk hurting your chances of selling. Updating fixtures, wallpaper or paint, flooring, bathtub, toilet sink and vanity (as well as lighting fixtures, as applicable) can add several thousand dollars to the selling price of your home and make it much more likely that you’ll sell in the end.

The fact is that all of us spend a lot of time in our bathrooms; it just can?t be helped. So why not have a bathroom that makes your bathroom experience as enjoyable as possible? Who needs a worn out necessary room, give your bathroom a facelift and you will find that you and your family are much better for it.
