The screen repair on an iPhone can indeed be very difficult. If you decide to try this repair yourself, there are some important things that you need to consider. These instructions will show you how to replace both the glass digitizer and the LCD screen. The repair will take approximately one hour to complete and will cause your warranty to be voided.
The first thing that you need to do is order the front digitizer glass and the replacement LCD screen. Remove the SIM card from the iPhone through the removal of the 2 screws which are underneath the iPhone. Using the tool that is used to pry the case and a suction cup remove the face from the iPhone. Then, remove the panel of glass that is on the inside of the frame that is made metal and the internal bracket which keeps it in one place and the screen for the LCD.
Next, unhook the cables 1, 2, and 3 in that order. Cables 1 and 2 will come out easily, but for cable 3 you’ll need to slide it out after you have flipped up the white clamp which is holding the cable in place. For now, set the back of the iPhone aside.
Take out the bracket screws that hold the glass digitizer and the LCD screen together. Then slide the bracket for the screen for the LCD down all the way when you separate it because there’s a bracket that holds it on the right side of the top.
Now, it is time to replace the actual screen for the LCD. Using a paperclip, separate the screen from the bracket and just pop it off. Then, attach the new screen to the bracket. Then, the new screen is ready to be reattached to the digitizer bracket.
Use a hairdryer to loosen the glass on the front of the phone. It should now be sufficiently loose to pry it out. Next, attach the frame to the glass by using the adhesive template that can be bought from numerous retailers after making sure that it has been cleaned. After, it is in place, remove the backing that has the adhesive on it and press the new digitizer into place.
Reassembly is the last step. You can now put all of the pieces back together the same way that they were taken apart. Replace the SIM card in the iPhone should be as good as new.
This repair should only cost you a little more than $40 while Apple will charge people nearly $249 for.
