La Prisonuiere: From the head of Diabolique comes this ambiguous, bewildered study of afemale addicted to a photographer of sadomasochism. This film is truly a remarkably piece of art. The Protector: Bizare mix of a kung fu film and a boy-and his pup tale, this inexpensive looking prduction from Thailand gets sentimental while a youthful martial artist has his cherished elephant stolen by thugs and transported to Australia. Following the poor men there, he hooks up with a Thaiborn Australian investigator and does battle with wicked gangs and others in an attempt to repossess his little Dumbo. Cast includes Tony Jaa, Petchtai Wongkamlao, Bongkoj Khongmalai, Nathan Jones, Johnny Nguyen, Xing Jing, and Damian De Montemas. (81 minutes, 2005)
Hold Back Tomorrow: This is another of Haas‘ oddball cheaply made dramas. This one is about a condemned killer who weds a gal on the day before he is put to death. Cast includes Cleo Moore, John Agar, Frank de Kova, Harry Guardino, and Jan Englund. (75 minutes, 1955)
The Music Man: Peerless Preston reprises his Broadway role as a terrific sales associate con guy Prof. Harold Hil who captivates Iowa town with visions of uniformed marching band. Cast includes Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Friend Hackett, Hermione Gingold, Paul Ford, Pert Kelton, and Ronny Howard. (151 minutes, 1962)
The Delta Factor: Alright Mickey Spillane story in regards to a private eye on a ClA mission to save a scientist imprisoned on an island. Cast includes Christopher George, Yvette Mimieux, Diane McBain, and Ralph Taeger. (91 minutes, 1970)
Sensations of 1945: Fame hungry Powell shows a press representative O’Keefe how to entice focus in this campy musical. One marvelous number has her tap dancing inside mammoth pinball game. Cast includes Eleanor Powell, Dennis O’Keefe, C. Aubrey Smith, Eugene Pallette, W. C. Territories, Cab Calloway, and Sophie Tucker. (86 minutes, 1945)
Marie Antoinette: Visually sumptuous account of an adolescent’s voyage from Vienna to the Palace at Versailles and the throne of France. Author-director Coppola’s Marie (as played by Dunst) is a modern-day gal, with contemporary music set contrary to the pomp and circumstance of the 18th century life. Starts to tire eventually and ends with a cry, not a smash although there’s much to like here. Cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Tear Tom, Steve Coogan, Rose Byrne, Asia Argento, Molly Shannon, Shirley Henderson, Danny Huston, Marianne Faithfull, Mary Nighy, and Sarah Adler. Southland Tales: Impressive cast is trashed in an overlong, overwrought wallow set in 2008 Southern California three years after a catastrophic atomic assault on Texas has turned America into a patrol state. Concentrates on a few individuals trying to subsist in this postapocalyptic atmosphere, including a B action film performer, a porn megastar turned Television commentator, and an L.A. patrol officer with a split personality. Cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore, Justin Timberlake, Nora Dunn, John Larroquette, Bai Ling, Jon Lovilz, Cheri Oteri, Amy Poehler, Lou Taylor Pucci, Miranda Richardson, Wallace Shawn, Holmes Osborne, Kevin Smith, Christopher Lambert, Janeane Garofolo, Beth Grant, Zelda Rubinstein, and Curtis Armstrong.
