Black Fury: Hard hitting melodrama in reference to exploitation of coal miners, with Muni as a strong „hunk“ who gets in over his head. Practical, and remarkably filmed, but it’s a tad choppy. Only You: Likable confection in reference to a youthful female who invests her entire life looking for her perfect mate whose name was summoned up on a Ouija board. Above Suspicion: WWII is just starting. American newlyweds honeymooning in Europe are enlisted by the US government to carry out an espionage mission against the Nazis. Can the honeymooners succeed? Jackson County Jail: Captive Yvette is dumped on by everyone she meets. So she goes on the lam with another inmate in yet a new chase movie. Livelier than most, this one has developed a cult notoriety. Miller later redid it for Television. Cast includes Yvette Miruieux, Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Carradine, Frederic Chef, Severn Darden, Howard Hesseman, and Mary Woronov. R.‘ (89 minutes, 1976)

Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: Try to link melodies from The Beatles‘ classic album into some kind of tale line just doesn’t work; patterns range from reasonable to humiliating. As to The Bee Gees performing ability, well let’s just say that they are not the Beatles. Cast includes Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, George Bums, Sandy Farina, and Steve Martin. (111 minutes, 1978)

Faraway So Close: The exact Wenders cast if not the exact Wenders film takes up where the more victorious Wings of Desire left off. This time it is life saver Sander who becomes mortal, joining his old celestial buddy who’s now wedded to a carnival entertainer. Lighter going than its predecessor, although additionally more lightweight; it’s still a good film to watch. Cast includes Otto Sander, Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin, Peter Falk, Willem Dafoe, Lou Reed, and Mikhail Gorbachev. (140 minutes, 1993)

The Defiant: A preoccupying tale of 2 escaped convicts, one black and one white who are chained together as they escape from prison in the South. Fine performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes, 1958)

From the earth to The Moon: Jules Verne’s fiction doesn’t hover well in contrived sci-fi of early rocket flight to the moon. The cast looks mostly agitated. Cast includes Joseph Cotten, George Sanders, Debra Paget, Don Dubbins, Patric Knowles, and Henry Daniel. (100 minutes, 1958)

A Good Woman: Strange rendition of Oscar Wilde’s Woman Windermere’s Fan, which has been filmed a few times over the years, set in Italy instead of England and updated from the 1890s to the 1930s. A number of Wilde’s British characters now are Americans. Cast includes Helen Seek, Scarlett Johansson, Milena Vukotic, Stephen Campbell Moore, Mark Umbers, Tom Wilkinson, and Diana Hardcastle. (93 minutes, 2005)
