Wearable Fashion Trends for this Season

Every season fashion trend followers flock to fashion week to check out the up coming trends. This fall/winter season designers have created trends that are both bold and wearable. This seasons trends can be worn by nearly any type of woman. All the styles this season are celebrating a woman’s body and flattering natural curves.

Color is playing an especially important part in this seasons trends. Mustard, Rust and other warm neutrals are dominating many designers collections. Bold bohemian inspired patterns are giving the runways a distinct flare reminiscent of the fashion of the nineteen seventies. Green is also a color that is making a splash this season. From rich emerald green to turquoise, a little green dress is the new black dress.

While bohemian or native inspired patterns are very popular, you might be able to find the seasons next trend in your grandmothers closet. Once reserved for the conservative country club set and bagpipe players, plaids are back this season. Pants, shirts, jackets and accessories can all be found in a variety of plaids this season.

Polka dots are another pattern that is trending this season. This is a trend that only a few people can pull off as a complete look, however it is an easy trend to incorporate into your accessories. A polka dot scarf or handbag will add a new fresh look to something you already own.

Structured styles are in this season. From camouflage prints and double breasted army inspired jackets to the androgynous look of motorcycle fashion the line between women and mens fashion are blurring. However, these looks are being coupled with synched waist dresses and other cuts that flatter a woman’s body.

Short skirts are out and maxi skirts are in! Comfort is playing a huge role in fashion trends this season. These long skirts are usually made out of a stretchy material like jersey to maximize comfort and give the overall look a flattering drape. These skirts look great coupled with another trend this season, the comfy sweater. Oversized or fluffy sweaters are another comfortable trend this season. This new look will allow you to keep wearing your favorite summer dress through fall. You will feel fun and fresh holding on to summer while battling the fall breezes by layering your dress with your favorite winter sweater.

Long skirts and comfortable sweaters may make some women feel like sexy is out this season, this is absolutely not true. Skirt slits are reaching new heights this season. As the hem lines get lower the slits are getting higher.

As the weather outside turns gray, brighten up your look with rich jewel toned or candy colored pants. Colorful pants in any style are trending this season so it is easy to participate in this bold trend.

Jewelry is an integral part of fashion this season. Chunky jewelry adorned with jewels, feathers and beads are adding a bohemian flair to collections across the fashion world. Another jewelry trend that is making a comeback for fall is the choker. Simple black, metallic or jeweled, this tight fitting accessory is the perfect way to spruce up an old look.

How much is New Marketing like Old Marketing

The hot topics in marketing today are branding, blogging, social media, and the like. However, ask any baby boomer still in sales if they have a blog, a twitter account, or a Facebook page for their business and they are fifty percent likely to say no. That’s because a lot of what social media tries to accomplish seems weird and inappropriate to old school marketing and sales professionals. Here is why.

The first commandment in old school sales is that in order to sell, you must build relationships. It’s not the brand of widget that your customer is buying. They’re not buying it because it is the best widget. They’re buying it because you’re the one selling it. How the heck do you build that relationship on „the Twitter?“ You have to be out there, meeting people face to face, having lunch with them, and playing golf on the weekends.

To some degree, this is still true. While your Dad’s marketing and sales strategy includes a country club membership and clocking lots of miles on the Crown Victoria, your marketing and sales strategy means joining a social media organization and making sure you’re at the right happy hour. What is the difference between the two? It’s simply a matter of your target audience. If you’re a thirty-something sales or marketing rep trying to service a sixty-year old customer, it’s probably best not to tell them to „Facebook“ you. They might be hip, sure, but they are not going to appreciate your invitation to Facebook like they would that round of golf at the club. It’s not an ageist or sexist statement. It’s the truth.

The flip side exists as well. If you’re a baby boomer real estate agent, and you’re trying to sell home to first-time homebuyers, you best make sure you’re on Twitter, Facebook, and maybe even 4Square. If your target demographic is of the social media age and mindset, you have to use those tools to put yourself ahead of the competition. Don’t, however, use social media if you don’t know what you’re doing.

The bottom line is that sales and marketing are still about relationships, but based on the industry and the people you’re dealing with, you have to be smart about how you develop those relationships, and how you maintain them. What works for your Dad may not work for you, and vice versa, whereas what works for Pops might work for you better than you think, and vice versa. It’s all about knowing your demographic, and knowing what your customers and potential customers expect and want from you.

Gone are the days of „hanging out a shingle.“ Today we hang banners all over the internet, shout from the proverbial rooftops, and do pretty much anything to keep existing business and acquire new business. Perhaps it is a mixture of „old school“ and „new school“ that will do the trick. Less golf, less twitter, more lunches, and more good old fashioned superior customer service. If you are the best at what you do, your business will reflect that.
