Understanding Incoming, Outgoing and Internal Links For SEO

In the world of web development, links are vehicles which, when clicked on, will transport you to another web page. There are different kinds of links, which we will discuss here. Internal links take you from one page on a website to a different page on the same site. Or they also may take you to a particular spot an a specific page within the website.

Internal links allow the user to maneuver around within a particular website. They can commonly be found on the navigation bar, but they also can be found elsewhere on the website. Search engines take note of internal links, so be wise when you choose their anchor text, as that will affect your page’s relevance in the rankings.

Incoming and Outgoing links are two different types of external links. Both types connect from one website to another website. The difference between the two is that if you have a link on your site that sends your visitor to another person’s website, that is considered an outgoing link. If another person has a link on their website which sends their visitor to your website, that is an incoming link.

Incoming links allow website owners to benefit from the traffic at other sites in two ways: traffic, and as a vote in terms of SEO. So working to obtain incoming links is an integral part of marketing. Search engines value the incoming links as votes for a site, and rank sites higher based on the quantity and quality of incoming links. Also a link to your site can bring traffic, direct visitors.

Outgoing links are useful because they provide extra value to your sites visitors in providing them references for additional material on topics that interest them. Outgoing links allow website owners to benefit from the traffic at other sites because by linking to established, credible, and authoritative sources, a website can build credibility amongst its visitors, display its judgment of relevant, quality information, and establish authority in its field. If you have too many outgoing links though, you are spreading yourself thin and will appear less credible to search engines, so choose your outgoing links wisely. Both the quantity and the quality of your links are integral to thorough and comprehensive SEO. When in doubt as to how to maximize your use of internal, incoming, and outgoing links seek the counsel of a qualified SEO company.
