Nine Must See Movies

For a long time we have used the video store as one of our main ways to access movies. The next generation it seems will be getting their movies from movie downloads, avoiding any trips to the store. Here are some examples of movies you can acquire through a movie download site.

Born American: The Cold War lives on as 3 youthful Americans vacationing in Finland inadvertently cross the boundary into Russia. Once there they battle it out with the local troops. Alright action scenes and personable youthful cast sugarcoat the bulky-handed partisan overtones. Cast includes Mike Norris, Steve Durham, David Coburn, Thalmus Rasulala, and Albert Salmi. (109 minutes, 1986)

A Fish Called Wanda: In London, two American thieves Otto, and Wanda, team up with two British crooks, George and Ken, to steal some very valuable diamonds. They succeed, and then hide the diamonds, planning to split up the loot later. Wanda and Otto want it all for themselves, so they rat George out. The problem is that George has moved the diamonds. Can Wanda and Otto find the diamonds, and get away?

China Girl: Atmospheric romantic thriller in reference to warring Chinese and Italian youth cliques in N.Y.C., with Panebianco and Chang as megastar crossed lovers. Controller Ferrara grants astronomical effort and some over-the-top brutality. Cast includes Richard Panebianco, Sari Chang, David Caruso, and Russell Wong. (88 minutes, 1987)

The Prophecy: Seminarian Koteas relinquishes the temple throughout his own ordination to become a homicide cop. Eventually he’s examining why Stoltz has killed an eyeless hermaphrodite with the physiological profile of an aborted fetus. There’s either too much mumbo or too much jumbo in this oddball terror picture. Give it perverse points, albeit, for managing to work in a Korean Battle subplot and for projecting Walken as the life saver Gabriel. Cast includes Christopher Walken, Elias Koteas, Virginia Madsen, Eric Stoltz, Viggo Mortensen, and Amanda Plummer. (93 minutes, 1995)

Delta Farce: 3 stupid army reservists, informed they are being sent to Iraq, are as an alternative dropped into the Mexican desert, where Larry and his friends Everett and Bill evidently Moe and Curly were unavailable go into motion contrary to corrupt police that they blunder for Middle Eastern terrorists. Give this mind-numbingly dumb trip points for creativity: it’s possibly the first and with any luck last lame-brained comedy to try milking snickers from replicated references to Shiites and Kurds! Home of the Black Death: Wizard keeps individuals prisoner in a scary old home; dreadfully dragged out, grade-Z stuff. Cast includes Lon Chaney, Jr., John Carradine, Andrea Emperor, and Tom Drake. (80 minutes, 1965)

The Absent Minded Professor: The professor (Fred MacMurray) discovers an incredibly bouncy and resilient substance. He names the substance flubber. But no one really believes he has discovered anything of interest, except one man who sets out to steal the formula and keep it for himself. A fun filled Disney comedy. Fred MacMurray, Nancy Olson, Keenan Wynn, and Tommy Kirk star in this funny movie. (1961 Comedy)

Promises Promises: Horrible comedy in regards to twosomes Mansfield-Noonan and McDonald-Hargitay, and their sensual shenanigans on a voyage. It is famous in its night for Jayne’s baring her body, a first for its time. Still, take heed: it is a genuinely poor film. Cast includes Jayne Mansfield, Marie McDonald, Tommy Noonan, Mickey Hargitay, Fritz Feld, Matjorie Bennett, and Imogene Coca. (75 minutes, 1963)

Down to the Sea in Ships: Youthful Stockwell satisfies seafaring target on crusty Barrymore’s whaling transport, under direction of ship mate Widmark. Cast includes Richard Widmark, Lionel Barrymore, Dean Stockwell, Cecil Kellaway, and Oene Lockhart. (120 minutes, 1949)
