Pale Rider: Eastwood Western starts out just fine, the legend of a gun slinger going to the help of some battling miners, however ends up draggy, conceited, and unexciting with so much cloning of Shabe as to be preposterous. Well created, although tries to be allegorical materialize off as absurd. The Front Page: Third filming of the Hecht-MacArthur play about crazy and woolly Chicago newspaperman in the 1920s has barely anything new to offer (with the exception of 4-letter words) although continues to be an entertaining piece of work. Afurika Monogatari: Guide Sayer crashes his jet in wilds of Africa and comes upon a game conserve. Even old Jimmy is uninteresting. The movie was filmed in Kenya. Cast includes James Stewart, Philip Sayer, Kathy, Eleanora Vallone, and Heekura Simba. (120 minutes, 1981)
The Plot against Harry: Entertaining, perceptive look at N.Y.C. life in reference to an aging mobster just sprung from jail, who finds the old guard changing, and his life unravelling. The Bellboy: Entertaining succession of blackouts with Jerry as a bellboy at Fontainebleau in Miami Shore. No structure although a lot of ludicrous gags. Milton Berle and Walter Winchell have visitor appearances. This was JerryLewis’s directorial debut. Cast includes Jerry Lewis, Alex Gerry, Bob Clayton, and Sonny Sands. (120 minutes, 1960)
